Mitología de la Tangente is a project developed using a pinhole camera where I have found myself enticed to portray the passing of the ants, creating a path of honey. Allowing the ants to be the writers of the story. A seemingly unimportant everyday moment that has led me to ponder in many directions. I spent hours, days, weeks devoted to this observation, and this time gave way to multiple questions, ideas and internal dialogues.
Through this photographic series I contemplate on the fragile quality of that which is permanent. I observe memory and what’s forgotten. The edges. The human dynamics in this wheel of time which Buddhism deems infinite.
What we see and what we don’t see, is it really there?
Does it exist?
It is not you, it’s me…
The never ending search for our roots, understanding where I come from. What time is it? Is it today?
“The world is full of ruins, of empires that believed they were forever.”
On the ground, Zura Lagarde spills her menstrual blood, as if she were sealing a pact with the earth. She calls it "sowing blood." The combination between these close-ups and the mountainous landscapes that are part of the "Dias de Luna" series intensify the overwhelming intuition of being in the presence of something archaic and makes both the fragment of wet land and the surrounding mountains share the same sensation of intimacy, typical of sacred things. The number 24 has constantly showed up through my whole life. My grandmother was born January 24, on a 24th as well my second daughter was born, and casually my third daughter was born on March 24th.
And so the day my friend in Barcelona tells me, you need to work with the I Ching 24, I decided to grab the book and ask a question, to which as an answer I received the I Ching 24. There was one more thing trying to speak to me. Ants.
If I left my coffee cup somewhere, I would suddenly find it full of them. The same thing with my car, ants here and ants there.
Once I found them on my bathroom floor, I realized it was through the ants that the message would be written, and I would immerse myself into its meaning. The symbol of I Ching 24. Fu / The Return.
